- Eligibility to Register to Vote
- In order to be eligible to register to vote in Iowa, an applicant must:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Reside in Iowa
- Must be at least 17 ½ years old (must be 18 years old by Election Day to vote. This includes the Primary Election.)
- Not be found incompetent to vote by a court
- Not claim the right to vote in any other place
- Eligibility for Ex-offenders
- Voting Rights are automatically restored after completion of sentence including parole and probation. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote.
- Registration Deadline
- Voter registration forms must be received 10 days before General and Primary Elections and received 11 days before all other elections. Registration forms which are postmarked 15 or more days before an election are considered on time even if received after the deadline.
