- Eligibility to Register to Vote
- In order to be eligible to register to vote in Maryland, an applicant must:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Reside in Maryland
- Be at least 16 years of age (you may register to vote if you are at least 16 years old but cannot vote unless you will be at least 18 years old by the next general election)
- Not have been found by a court to be incapable of voting by reason of mental disability
- Not have been convicted of buying or selling votes
- Pre-registration
- In Maryland 16 year olds may pre-register to vote. The registration will become active as soon as the registrant turns 18.
- Eligibility for Ex-offenders Voting rights are automatically restored after completion of sentence including parole and probation. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote.
- Registration Deadline Voter registration forms must be submitted by or postmarked 21 days before the election.
