- Eligibility to Register to Vote
- In order to be eligible to register to vote in North Carolina, an applicant must:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Reside in North Carolina for 30 days in advance of the election
- Be at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day
- Not registered to vote in any other country or state
- Pre-Registration
- In North Carolina 16 year olds may pre-register to vote. The registration will become active as soon as the registrant turns 18.
- Eligibility for Ex-offenders
- Voting rights are automatically restored after completion of sentence including parole and probation. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote.
- Registration Deadline
- Voter registration forms must be submitted by or postmarked 25 days before the election. It is also possible to register and vote during the Early Voting period.
- Election Day Registration
- You may register to vote at your polling place on Election Day and vote a regular ballot. Contact your local elections office to learn more.
