- Eligibility to Register to Vote
- In order to be eligible to register to vote in South Dakota, an applicant must:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Reside in South Dakota
- Be at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day
- Not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law
- Eligibility for Ex-offenders
- Voting rights are automatically restored after the completion of sentence including parole. People on probation can vote. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote.
- Registration Deadline
- Voter registration forms must be received 15 days before the election.
