Voter Registration in Tennessee

Eligibility to Register to Vote
In order to be eligible to register to vote in Tennessee, an applicant must:
  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Reside in Tennessee
  • Be at least 18 years of age or older on Election Day
  • Not be found by a court to be mentally incompetent
Eligibility for Ex-offenders
In Tennessee voting rights are automatically restored upon completion of sentence, probation and parole, payment of all court-ordered restitution and court-ordered child support. Ex-offenders should re-register to vote. However, for certain crimes the right to vote may be permanently denied, unless restored by the Governor.
Registration Deadline
Voter registration forms must be submitted by or postmarked 30 days before the election.
