- Eligibility to Register to Vote
- In order to be eligible to register to vote in Virginia, an applicant must:
- Be a United States Citizen
- Be a resident of Virginia
- Be 18 years old (Any person who is 17 years old and will be eighteen years of age at the next general election shall be permitted to register in advance and also vote in any intervening primary or special election)
- Not be registered and plan to vote in another state
- Not be currently declared mentally incompetent by a court of law
- Eligibility for Ex-offenders
- In Virginia ex-offenders are barred from voting for life, unless their voting rights are restored by the Governor.
- Registration Deadline
- Voter registration forms must be submitted by or postmarked 29 days before the election.
