Nonprofit VOTE partners with America’s nonprofits to help the people they serve participate and vote. We are the largest source of nonpartisan resources to help nonprofits integrate voter engagement into their ongoing activities and services. Additionally, Nonprofit VOTE manages the collaborative work of National Voter Registration Day, a single day of coordinated field, technology, and media strategies to raise awareness of and help hundreds of thousands of Americans register to vote.

Job Description

As the communications coordinator, you will work in partnership with our Assoc. Dir. of communications and other staff to administer a multi-faceted communications plan to raise the visibility of our educational resources and training material for nonprofits, energize and encourage partners across the nation to register or otherwise engage voters in their respective
communities, and inform our partners about policy changes and best practices. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate original content for social media platforms, including graphically-oriented social media sharables, links to relevant new stories, promotion of organizational resources, and more.
  • Engage social media followers as partners and allies for amplifying content.
  • Implement regular email list serve plans, including writing, editing, loading, verifying links, formatting, and scheduling content in CRM (Action Network).
  • Work with program staff to regularly update web content using WordPress. Ensure resources are current, clearly stated, well organized, and accessible.
  • Proofreading and editorial assistance for content generated by others staff, as well as original writing and content generation.
  • Assist with production and editorial review of larger, research-oriented reports published 1-3 times per year.
  • Work with Executive Director to generate and/or edit periodic donor communications, review of foundation materials, and other fundraising content.
  • Ensure consistent look and feel of communications with clear style guides.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Passion for voter engagement and an inclusive democracy, including ability to articulate democratic values with a strongly nonpartisan voice.
  • Intense curiosity and desire to stay current with evolving best practices for social media, mass emails, and web site communications.
  • An eye for good design and ability to generate visually engaging content.
  • Strong writer and editor with an understanding of effective messaging and framing.
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure content quality, valid links, and clean merges.
  • Efficient, productive, and capable of consistently generating content.
  • Creative, innovative, self-starting with new ideas.
  • Proficiency with Canva, Photoshop, or comparable design software.
  • Ability to work effectively on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, etc.
  • Knowledge of (Action Network) and WordPress.

Requirements

  • A bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of communications experience.

Salary and Benefits
This position will pay between $55,000 and $65,000 depending on experience. Health, dental, retirement, and other benefits provided. Position is based in Cambridge, MA (telecommuting during COVID lock-downs). Though infrequent, some out-of-state travel may be required.
