Yesterday, Vermont became the 14th state to pass Election Day Registration (the 15th jurisdiction, including the District of Columbia). The new law will take effect January 1, 2017. This week, the Vermont House passed a bill that will allow voters to register to vote at a polling place on Election Day. Under the current law, the registration deadline is the Wednesday before the election. The National Popular Vote plan is a nationwide effort to award the presidency to the winner of the national popular vote, bypassing the Electoral College.
