Webinar Rundown: Register Your Constituents to Vote
Thank you to all of you who were able to attend our webinar last week “Register Your Constituents to Vote in 2017.” We would like to offer special thanks to Cheryl Ellis of Democracy North Carolina and Emily Shamsid-Deen of Community Resource Center in Denver Colorado for lending us their expertise. Their “on the ground” perspective on nonprofit voter registration was invaluable.
Here are a few of the other resources we mentioned during the webinar:
- Nonprofit VOTE’s Voter Engagement Resource Library. Find all of our toolkits, factsheets, and other resources here, including our voter registration toolkit and our factsheets on the National Voter Registration Act and on restrictions on certain types of organizations and funding sources.
- The Center for Technology and Civic Life’s innovative ElectionTools.org website and in particular their new Voter Registration Drive Kit. The kit walks users through the process of setting up a voter registration drive and providers poster templates and other resources.
- We mentioned National Voter Registration Day. Please visit the site and sign up today. Everyone who signs up will get a packet including free posters and stickers. National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, September 26th this year.

If you’re new to voter engagement work, you may have questions about what your organization is permitted to do as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The answer is a lot, as long as you do it on a nonpartisan basis. In this webinar, we’ll discuss how to ensure that your nonprofit remains nonpartisan while engaging clients, consumers, staff, and constituents around voting and elections. The webinar includes explanations of IRS rules, do’s and don’t’s for nonprofits, and more.
