In every state except North Dakota, you must first register before being able to vote. Thus, voter registration is critical to the voter engagement efforts of nonprofits.
While some states allow same-day registration (the ability to register or update your registration information and then cast a ballot), most have advance registration deadlines that are sometimes a full 30 days before the election.
Without first ensuring your constituents are registered, the impact of later get-out-the-vote efforts could be diminished.
Stay on top of voter registration by signing up to participate in National Voter Registration Day on September 23rd. Make voter registration visible by promoting it in your communications and by placing Nonprofit VOTE’s voter registration tool on your website or by simply linking to it.
