Michigan Nonprofit Association

The Michigan Nonprofit Association is a statewide membership organization that achieves its mission through advocacy, training, technology services, and civic engagement. The goal of their community engagement programs is to enhance participation in the “civic engagement cycle” of historically underrepresented groups. Efforts include getting constituents counted in the Census, to vote, and to participate in the redistricting process. Every site that responded to the follow-up survey indicated they would partner with MNA to do voter engagement in the future.

Pledge-to-vote card

In addition to asking people to register to vote, sites used pledge-to-vote cards that were customized for their state. Important elements of the card include:

  • Important dates
  • Plan to vote
  • Designed to be mailed back to the voter. Seeing their own handwriting on the card can reinforce their feeling of commitment.

Read more about creating pledge-to-vote cards in the Methods section of the Practitioner’s Report.
