Voters Should Stay the Course on Mail Voting

Group urges voters to plan early and nonprofits to continue preparing for November

Boston, MA– In response to the  recent court decisions around the March 31 Executive Order on mail-in ballots, Executive Director of Nonprofit VOTE Brian Miller released the following statement:

“At this moment, nothing has changed for voters. The proposed USPS changes are currently being blocked by the courts, and election officials across the country are moving ahead with their plans for November.

There’s been a fair amount of legal back and forth over the last few weeks, and that may continue. But the election calendar is also moving forward. Ballots are being prepared now, the first mail ballots will start going out soon, and states have deadlines they are already working toward.

So our advice is the same as it was before: make your plan and vote early if you can. If you vote by mail, request your ballot early and send it back with plenty of time. The more voters who vote early, by mail or in person, the less impact any last-minute events, from long lines to a family emergency, can have on your vote.

Nonprofits doing nonpartisan voter work should stay the course too. Keep helping people register, understand their options, and make a plan to vote. Right now the most useful thing we can do as nonprofits is help people participate and make sure every eligible voter can cast a ballot that counts.”
